Writing is A Solitary Occupation
Writing is a solitary occupation. Family, friends, and society are the natural enemies of the writer. He must be alone, uninterrupted, and slightly savage if he is to sustain and complete an undertaking.

This is so true and it is so hard for me to do sometimes. Living with a significant other has made it incredibly hard for me to just be alone and write. He is a wonderful person and says he understands my need, but I think it's easier said than done for him. I hope I can get to a point where I can truly be alone and write, as this is truly a passion I'd like to nurture.
If writing should happen at the expense of family and friends, it's not worth pursuing. The challenge is to be part of life and write. Otherwise it's a mere obsession, and a dangerous one.
