The Real Importance of Reading
The real importance of reading is that it creates an ease and intimacy with the process of writing . . . . It also offers you a constantly growing knowledge of what has been done and what hasn't, what is trite and what is fresh, what works and what just lies there dying (or dead) on the page. The more you read, the less apt you are to make a fool of yourself with your pen or word processor.

I just want to say that your Twitter account has been instrumental in pushing me to write. I've been a magazine editor since the mid-nineties but it was only this year that I had the courage to write a book of my own, not like the coffeetable books I was commissioned to co-author and co-edit before.
I used to think I was a technodinosaur, but now I think I've been able to draw some benefit from social media, especially on Twitter, where I followed the likes of you.
My book, "Write Here Write Now: Standing at Attention Before My Imaginary Style Dictator," was launched last November, published by National Book Store, the oldest and biggest bookstore in Manila, where I also spent much of my childhood in search of books to read. It was -- still is -- my gateway to imagined worlds.
It was through the constant advice and bits of wisdom from authors dead and alive that you share with us your followers on Twitter that I found the courage to write my own book. Now I'm also maintaining my blog aapatawaran.com, resolved to write on a daily basis, which I believe is a tip you have often reiterated on Twitter and in this website.
Thank you very much!
Thank you for the kind words, and good luck with your book and blog.
Great advice as always, thank you for posting this : )
