Three Reasons for Becoming A Writer
There are three reasons for becoming a writer: the first is that you need the money; the second, that you have something to say that you think the world should know; the third is that you can’t think of what to do with the long winter evenings.

When you have a story to tell; believe it's exceptional; have command of the language in which it is written; then you have a reason to become a writer. Money is not good enough.
It also helps if you understand when an author is being witty.
when you know how to properly use semi-colons.
When words are best way you have if telling the world who you are.
Money is not a reason for writing, writing is too fleeting and hard to pin to paper for that... unless you prefer cheap words.
Money may not be the best reason to write, but if you have the skills, it's a valid one. Writing pays my mortgage every month. With money. But perhaps "the need to live indoors" is my actual motivation. Still, it's hard to barter directly for shelter. ;)
Um, yeah, I would never write to make money. In fact, that's a horrible reason to write because writing is actually not a great way to make money because unless your book sells, which so many books do NOT, then you aren't really going anyway unless you decide to self-publish and authors who self-publish are statistically ten times more likely to fail than those who choose to take the traditional route.
I write because I have a story to tell and I want people to read it as well as for the people who already love my work.
What other reason do I need?
